In addition to the beauty of our natural surroundings, Madison County, North Carolina, set in the Blue Ridge Mountains, has a deep and rich history which you can explore using one of many self-guided tours. Whether you enjoy winding through country roads to get an overview of its history and culture or prefer a more focused, thematic way to see the sites, we can offer both of those options. Historically, you can find sites of importance dating from colonial times to Civil War times to World War I by using the Civil War Trails or the Historical Markers tours. Other sites mark Madison County’s role in events in Appalachian craft history and our traditional music heritage. Or, if you just want to drive through the county experiencing our natural treasures such as the French Broad River, the Appalachian Trail and the Pisgah National Forest, you can choose one of our three North Carolina Scenic Byway tours or try our Driving Tour. There are self-guided tours of each of the three towns in the county also.
