“Strikingly original and absorbing…” — Film Journal International
“Songcatcher is like one of the ballads it showcases, with similarly sharply drawn characters and those almost mythic throat-catching moments of poignancy, courage and joy.” — Andrea Chase of killermoviereviews.com
The movie won the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival 2000 and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. Filmed in nearby Barnardsville just north of Asheville, two of Madison County’s musicians were part of the filming. Sheila Kay Adams served as a vocal coach and played the banjo for the film and a young Josh Goforth played the fiddle.
