Weizenblatt Gallery to Exhibit Sculptures By Remy Hanemann from February 17 to March 5

Weizenblatt Gallery to Exhibit Sculptures By Remy Hanemann Mars Hill University’s Weizenblatt Gallery will exhibit works by Spruce Pine sculptor Remy Hanemann from Monday, February 17, 2020, through Thursday, March 5, 2020. A reception for the artist will be held Wednesday, February 19, from 6-8 pm. Hanemann is a highly experienced and accomplished metal worker. He grew up in southern Louisiana, surrounded by the oil processing, commercial fishing, and fabrication industries. One of their by-products was scrap: cast-offs from manufacturing, junked machinery, and other items that were no longer of value to their original owners. In his artworks, Hanemann uses these discarded and recycled metal objects. He recombines them in new ways, similar in concept to the ways that people reinvent themselves when moving from one phase of life to another. These new creations show their history in their forms, textures, colors, while their new combinations show the beauty that their histories bring to the present. Hanemann’s work is best seen slowly and rewards contemplation, both in the artworks as well as in their parallels to the viewer’s own history. Weizenblatt Gallery is located in the Moore Fine Arts Building on the Mars Hill University campus. It is open from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and admission is free. Flowers and Clay, second annual Copus pottery home show and farm tour July 18 to 19, 2020

Spend the Day with Us — Or the Weekend Come be part of our extended family as we open our business homes to the public for the first time ever. Flowers and Clay is an annual collaboration between Josh Copus Pottery and Carolina Flowers — also known as Josh and Emily Copus. Walk inside a 27-foot pottery kiln and pick a dahlia from the garden. See how wild clay is made and tour the production farm where we grow tens of thousands of flowers each year. Dine with us on Saturday night — we’ll have pizza from our woodfire oven with herbs from the farm and garden. Plan to stay awhile. We’ll have games and activities. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy our mountain cove, or make a day trip to one of the nearby hikes or swimming spots. Explore downtown Marshall while you’re in the neighborhood, and be sure to walk past the Old Marshall Jail — our other creative business endeavor. There is no cost to attend this event. Flowers and pottery will be for sale on site. Check back for additional details, schedules and collaboration announcements. AN IMPORTANT NOTE: Farm tours will take place at specific times only. The farm is short drive or walk from the pottery kiln complex, where the main event will be held. There are extensive gardens for you to enjoy at the kiln complex, but the bulk of our production happens at other sites.
