The combination of the beauty of the surroundings, wildlife and the challenge of shooting can be found in Madison County, North Carolina. A beautiful setting for a sporting clays and game preserve is at the end of a beautiful scenic drive in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The hosts are the friendliest and most knowledgeable people that hunting and shooting enthusiasts (as well as beginners) will find. And, a wonderful place for lunch is just a mile away.

Sporting Clays
Sometimes called “golf with a shotgun,” clay target shooting is one of the fastest growing shotgun sports in the country. Fowler Farms Sporting Clays and Game Preserve opened in July 2004 to meet this need. After 10 years of retirement, Mary Ruth and Cline Fowler transformed their former tobacco and cattle farm into this haven for hunter and shooters. They are located in the Spring Creek Community just 10 miles south of Hot Springs, off Scenic Highway NC 209 or less than an hour north of West Asheville, NC.

Sporting Clays is designed for all levels of experience and offers lessons both for beginners and for those wanting to improve their score on this course, or perfecting their hunting skills. You can even rent a shotgun and buy the ammunition. And, each May, look for their information on a “Fun Shoot,” a day of shooting, fun, food and prizes.

Game Preserve—Quail Hunting
The Sporting Clays course is designed to simulate challenging shots encountered during hunting. Once you have confidence in your ability, you can shoot real birds instead of clay pigeons, from October through March in the Game Preserve section. Quail are available for purchase. Bring your own dog or rent one.
