The Showman — Cas Wallin

One of Lee Wallin’s brothers who was featured on John Cohen’s albums in the 1960s and later was Cas Wallin. Unlike the others of his generation and before, Cas was a much more animated performer.  Cas was used to leading a group in church and so he would move around and use his hands while singing. This quality contrasted with the usual performance of those who would stand completely still while singing ballads. Because he was so animated when he sang,  the young people loved to watch Cas perform. He traveled to many festivals and events with relatives performing throughout the area and spread the story of Madison County’s traditional music heritage.
