Madison County Barn Quilts

barn quilt nc

The quilt is a symbol of comfort, family, heritage and community. This project was created as a way to honor one of the great traditions of our rural county as well as share its physical beauty.

In an ever-growing area, Madison County has retained its rural roots and roads are not made for speed but to follow the rivers and ridges, so plan to meander and take your time. The best way to find these quilts is to use the official Madison County map that can be found at numerous locales including the Madison County Visitor Center, the Madison County Arts Council (828-649-1301) and the Hot Springs Visitor Center. In addition the map can be found at local businesses and gas stations. This official county map will make locating the roads possible!

Some of the patterns you will see are handed down through generations; others are simply beloved. These quilts were all painted by Madison County residents.
