Bicycling in Madison County, NC
Enjoy the scenery on some of the most beautiful and lightly-traveled roads in western North Carolina here in Madison County. Whether gentle sloping or steep challenging roads are what you are looking for, you will find both here. The weather is mild throughout most of the year and we are just a short drive from Asheville.
If you are a serious bicyclist, there are two chances every year in July to test your skills. Hot Doggett 100 Century and Devil’s Fork Metric Century Bicycle Ride takes place the second Saturday in July. And, the French Broad Cycling Classic Race takes place on the third weekend each July.
The county also has Pace Cycles on Main Street in Marshall. Pace can help with repairs or accessories as it is a full service bike shop. (The store specializes in sales of recycled and vintage bikes, too.) On Sunday, you won’t find the store open because the owner himself–Carson Pace– is out enjoying cycling through our beautiful county.
